About this Event

The Triangle Esports Championship (TEC 2020) will return to the Triangle area February 7-9 at the Herb Young Community Center in Cary, NC.

The Town of Cary will be the tournament hosts while Lenovo is providing 200 gaming computers from Lenovo’s Legion line. One hundred PCs will be designated for “free play” and 100 will be assigned to gamers for official tournament play.

TEC 2019 sold out quickly, so make sure you follow the steps below to enjoy what promises to be one of the best video game expos and tournaments in the Triangle. All gamers, regardless of skill level, are invited to come compete and have fun!

Step 1: Select a General Admission Pass

Select your ticket for purchase. Your ticket gives you access to the event. Watch the action and root for your favorites, enjoy the PlayStation Showcase, freeplay, and enjoy food and drinks.

Options include 1-day, 2-day, or VIP 3-day passes.

Step 2: Tournament Registration

To compete in a tournament, you must select the free tournament entry add-on prior to clicking "check out."

Team Tournaments

  • TEC 2020: Rocket League: Three-player teams, Saturday
  • TEC 2020: Fortnite Duos: Two-player teams, Sunday

Registration is required for each individual team member.

Solo Tournaments

  • TEC 2020: Street Fighter, Saturday
  • TEC 2020: Super Smash Brothers, Sunday

*All tournament players must have a account in order to participate.

Age Guidelines

All ages can attend and play. We have a few for those under 18:

  • Minors age 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Anyone accompanying a minor must have their own ticket to enter.
  • If a minor (under 18) wins a tournament prize, a parent or legal guardian must sign an IRS form 1099 to collect the prize.
  • Children under 3 can attend free with a parent or guardian but cannot participate in tournaments or freeplay.

Parents: TEC 2020 is designed for everyone to have a have a fun, safe time. If you are accompanying a minor, you must also purchase a ticket. You are welcome to sign up to play in the tournaments or you can watch the action and enjoy all the other activities.

Benefiting the Community

All proceeds support the work of two local nonprofits, Kramden Institute and the Triangle Literacy Council. Their programs help thousands of disadvantaged Triangle residents gain literacy and digital inclusion skills to succeed in school and beyond.

What to Expect From TEC 2020

New to esports events? Here's what you'll see at TEC.

Esports, or competitive gaming tournaments, is an exciting form of entertainment that’s growing fast. TEC 2020 allows you to play and compete with other esports enthusiasts in a variety of gaming activities. There are a few tournaments with cash prizes you can sign up to compete in. A Rocket League 3v3 (teams of three), Fortnite Duos (teams of two), Street Fighter (individual), and Super Smash Brothers (individual) tournaments throughout the weekend.

Other activities include the PlayStation Showcase, freeplay on 100 gaming rigs from Lenovo's Legion line or on your own handheld console, as well as watching the tournaments and the announcers calling the action. TEC is a family-friendly event. Police and volunteers will be present all day to ensure a safe, respectful, and fun time for everyone.


Your ticket gives you all-day access to tournaments, spectator seating, freeplay, the PlayStation Showcase, and more. Tournaments occur throughout the day. If you're competing in a tournament, make sure you check in on time (1 hour before start of play).
