For my drawing works I prefer to use Soft Pastels, Rembrandt and Sennelier mostly along with various pastel pencils. I find I love the tactile feel of the pastels and the sanded feel of UArt paper. I have also experimented with Velour paper and love it's soft quality for certain subjects. Sometimes I use a reference photo for inspiration and sometimes I explore a feeling with color and stroke.
The drawings were originally made on 8.5 x 11 paper with a black roller ball G2 pen (typical black pen) and black Sharpies. I use words or themes or neighborhood names to fill in different outlines. For instance, I use the name of bourbons to fill in the silhouette outlines of bourbon bottles behind the shape of Kentucky. All the words are hand-drawn and are my own spontaneous creation and calligraphy, meant to fill the full image silhouette that I have in mind.
