Cary is one of thousands of communities across the country to participate in America Recycles Day events on or around November 15. We encourage residents to recycle more and recycle right 365 days a year.

Shredding Documents

Want to shred and recycle your documents? While Cary’s shred event is canceled, we recommend reaching out to local office supply stores or your bank to inquire about public shredding services. Many public shredding events are also listed throughout the year on the NC DOJ Website.

Another option is to shred at home and place shredded paper in plastic bags and then into your garbage cart. It is not accepted for recycling in Cary.

Recycling Paper

Cary accepts most paper and cardboard in your recycling cart, but there are some often overlooked items that should not be recycled. These include:

  • Foil gift wrap
  • Shredded paper
  • Paper soiled with food
  • Pizza boxes.

Junk mail and greeting cards are accepted without electronic devices.
