Wake County and the Town of Cary are partnering to build a 30,000-square-foot county library and a 600-space, Town-owned parking deck in the heart of downtown Cary. Wake County is managing the design and construction of the facilities.
This project is an important part of the Town’s strategy to revitalize downtown Cary. It will help position the downtown area as the cultural center for Cary and a place for activities to support downtown businesses and complement the efforts of the Cary Arts Center.
Project Cost and Schedule
Construction of both facilities is expected to cost $23.7 million, of which the Town’s portion is expected to be $13 million.
The project began in spring 2018 and is expected to be complete by the end of 2019.
Please note: The Town-owned parking lot on Walker Street between Park and Walnut streets will be closed for the entirety of construction. Downtown visitors are welcome to park along Academy Street, Faculty Avenue and Park Street or in parking lots on Faculty Avenue and at the Cary Arts Center.
