The Town of Cary follows the state of North Carolina Holiday Schedule. Observed holidays include:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • Good Friday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Veterans Day
  • Thanksgiving (Thursday and Friday)
  • Christmas (three working days)

The Town does not ordinarily exercise authority over calendar holidays. In Cary, holidays and other special calendar days are generally celebrated on the date shown on the calendar. For example, if Halloween -- October 31 -- falls on a Sunday, the Town will not move the celebration of Halloween to a different day.

With few exceptions, Town offices are closed on the above-listed holidays. Call ahead before visiting any facility. See the GoCary operations schedule and the solid waste schedule for collection changes.
