Cary’s Zoning Compliance Officers (ZCO) provide a range of services, including final site inspections, issuing fence and sign permits, and enforcing the Land Development Ordinance regarding all aspects of zoning.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Illegal signage
  • Commercial vehicles parked in neighborhoods
  • Landscape violations
  • Illegal tree clearing
  • Junk cars
  • Site plan violations
  • Home occupations

Cary ZCOs have jurisdiction within the Town limits and properties within the Town’s Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). Cary currently employs three full time zoning officers and a Zoning Compliance Supervisor.

If you would like to report a possible zoning violation or have questions, call the Planning and Development Services Department at (919) 469-4046 or contact your district Zoning Officer. Find your district using the Zoning Officer's Map.
