I-40 & Aviation Parkway to Close for Weekend of April 24 for Bridge Demolition

Post Date:04/22/2020 11:15 AM
  • Weather permitting, NCDOT will close both directions of Interstate 40 at Aviation Parkway this weekend to complete the demolition of the old Aviation Parkway bridge that crosses over the interstate.
  • I-40 westbound and eastbound traffic will travel up and down the ramps at Aviation Parkway instead of the normal interstate lanes. Right-turn movements will still be allowed at the top of the ramps, but left turns across the bridge will not be permitted. The recently opened McCrimmon Pkwy will serve as a primary detour route.
  • The closure will last from Friday, April 24 at 6 p.m. through Monday, April 27 at 5 a.m., and drivers accessing I-40 from RDU International and Aviation Parkway can expect minor delays throughout this time. Traffic control devices and signage will be in place to direct motorists.
