Cary, NC - Weather Permitting, CSX Transportation will implement rolling closures of four railroad crossings in western Cary starting the morning of March 9 and lasting through the end of March. CSX maintenance crews will begin work starting in Downtown Apex early March, moving north through western Cary and into Durham. The continuous closures are necessary to allow CSX to complete railroad track maintenance work and asphalt repairs.
Specifically, the railroad crossings at Salem Church Road, Davis Drive, and Waldo Rood Blvd. near Davis Drive Elementary and Davis Drive Middle Schools will be closed simultaneously beginning March 9. Delays are expected, and drivers are asked to follow the suggested detours and posted signage to access the area:
Suggested Detour: Thru traffic is encouraged to avoid the crossing closures. Follow signs and barricades using North Salem Street to US 64 West to NC 55 West to High House Road to Davis Drive.
In addition to the March 9 closures, the Kit Creek Road railroad crossing just East of NC 55 Highway in Northwest Cary will be closed weather permitting beginning March 16.
Suggested Detour: Thru traffic is encouraged to avoid the crossing closure. Follow signs and barricades using NC 55 to Hobson Road to Louis Stephens Drive.
Railroad crossing closures will be temporary and will be in effect for up to seven calendar days, weather permitting. Local traffic will be maintained up to the crossing closure area.
Heavy delays are expected; drivers are asked to avoid the areas and follow local detour signage. Traffic will be detoured to NCDOT streets by ownership. CSX will provide electronic changeable message signs in advance of the crossing closures for advanced warning.
