Cary NC – The Town of Cary celebrates the season with its annual Heart of the Holidays festivities on Saturday, December 7! Join us as Downtown Cary comes alive with family fun all day long.
The celebration starts at 10 a.m. with Santa’s Workshop at Herbert C. Young Community Center. Children 10 and younger can enjoy a variety of craft stations and a visit with the white bearded guy from the North Pole. Don’t forget to support the Cary Teen Council’s food drive by sending two non-perishable food items or a cash donation. These will serve as admission to the event, and all proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
Stop by the Page-Walker Arts & History Center Holiday Open House between 3 and 6 p.m. for old-fashioned Christmas fun. Enjoy carriage rides, music from Victorian carolers and the Triangle Folk Ensemble, and warm cider and cookies from the Garden Club of Cary. Be sure to keep an eye out for Father Christmas!
While you’re taking in the sights downtown, be sure to browse the entries in the annual Gifting Tree Project, lining Academy Street between Ashworth’s and the Cary Arts Center, and the Gingerbread House competition, on display at various Downtown businesses. Participants will be able to vote for their favorite entry in each competition on townofcary.org.
The Cary Players will present five showings of seasonal favorite “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” throughout the weekend, including 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. showings on Saturday, at the Cary Arts Center. Tickets are $20 for adults and are available online or at the Cary Theater box office.
The holiday cheer culminates in the 6 p.m. Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Town Hall campus. The event begins with a variety show, followed by the tree lighting at 6:45 and a 7 p.m. reception inside Town Hall.
Don’t forget to stop by Santa’s Mailbox in the Downtown Park! Letters to Santa can be dropped off any time before December 9. Every child who includes their name and return address on their letter will hear back from Santa himself.
