Cary, NC – Beginning this September, the Town will test for leaks in the sewer system by placing a safe, non-toxic smoke into the sewer lines. Smoke testing occurs over several days, however, the actual testing in selected neighborhoods may last only a few minutes. Test areas are selected each year and updated online. If you live in an area to be tested, the Town suggests you run water into all drains for one minute, especially those used infrequently, between now and September 1.

Most residents will not see or smell the smoke used during our test. If traces of the smoke or its odor do enter your building, it is an indication that gasses and odors from the sewer may also be entering at other times. Report the presence of smoke in your building during testing by calling (919) 469-4090.

For more, visit Smoke Testing at www.townofcary.org or call (919) 469-4090. Also, be sure to follow the Town of Cary on FacebookTwitter and check your neighborhood Nextdoor for updates.
