Traffic Alert - Walker Street Improvement Project to Begin
Cary, NC - Contractors working on behalf of the Town of Cary will begin construction of the Walker Street Improvements Project in Downtown Cary on Monday, August 19th weather permitting. Construction activities are expected to be completed Winter 2021. Project Improvements include, sewer repairs, upgrades to storm drainage, water main replacement, relocation of utilities, upgraded curb, sidewalks, asphalt paving and new architectural decorative painted metal traffic signals. To ensure safety to the workers, business owners, motorists, cyclists and pedestrians during the work, the Contractor will close portions of Walker St., Waldo St. and E. Chatham St. at intermittent phases, during the project. At least one-travel lane will remain open during the work periods where traffic is to be maintained through the work area.
Temporary Street Closures:
Phase I - Temporary Closure of S. Walker St. and Waldo St. Intersection - August 19 to September 1, 2019.
Phase II - Temporary Closure of S. Walker St. between E. Chatham St. & Waldo St. - Sept 1 to Dec 31, 2019.
Phase III - Temporary Closure of Walker St. at E. Chatham St. - December 2019 (2-week period)
Begin Construction – August 19, 2019
Phase I – Close Walker and Waldo Street Intersection – August 19th to September 1, 2019
Phase II – Close Walker Street between E. Chatham and Waldo Street – September 1 to December 31, 2019
Phase III – Close Walker Street and E. Chatham Street Intersection – December 2019 (2-week period)
Substantially Complete Project (excludes metal signal poles/equipment) - Summer 2020
Complete Architectural Decorative Traffic Signal Poles/Equipment - Late-Fall 2020
Final Project Completion - Winter 2021
Electronic Changeable Message Signs will be used at the site to announce street and intersection closures in advance of the work. Town of Cary will update the project webpage to provide real-time traffic and detour information.
