Cary, NC – Cary Police are hoping three strikes will bring an end to a series of convenience store robberies featuring a suspect wearing purple latex gloves and black Adidas sneakers during his early morning capers. The latest robbery occurred today at the Stop and Go convenience store at the Valero gas station, 301 N. Harrison Ave. in Cary. The suspect entered the store and directed the clerk behind the counter to the cash register, where he took money and cigarettes before fleeing the area on foot. The suspect implied he had a weapon but did not display it during the incident.
“This is the third time this suspect has successfully robbed a convenience store, and each time he gets a little bolder with his actions. Today there were customers in the store during the incident,” said Captain John Szymeczek of the Cary Police Department. “We’re hoping the public will be able to identify or provide information that aids in his arrest before someone gets hurt.”
The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, stocky build and facial hair approximately 30-35 years of age. He is believed to be responsible for additional robberies at the Stop and Go convenience store located at 1350 Old Apex Road in Cary on April 6 and May 8. In both of those incidents, he proceeded behind the counter and took money and cigarettes before leaving the area on foot. During the April 6 incident, he also brandished a weapon.
In each of the robberies, the suspect was wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and black Adidas sneakers with white stripes; he is also seen in purple latex gloves. Upon his arrest, he will be charged with armed robbery, a Class D felony punishable by up to 204 months in prison.
