Cary, NC – Celebrate the season on December 1 in Downtown Cary with a day full of festive fun at the annual Heart of the Holidays event.  The day-long seasonal celebration opens with Santa’s Workshop from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Herb Young Community Center, 101 Wilkinson Ave. Children ages 10 and younger can participate in a number of crafts and visit with Santa Claus. While there is no fee to attend, guests are encouraged to support the Cary Teen Council’s annual food drive by bringing non-perishable foods or making a cash donation; all items will be given to a local charity.

This will be the eighth year of the Gingerbread House Competition, on display in Downtown Cary on Saturday, with the winning houses on display all December long at the Cary Arts Center. Also on display with a stroll through Downtown Cary is the Gifting Tree Project, a Christmas tree decorating contest with a charitable twist.

Take a carriage ride and enjoy Victorian carolers while getting into the holiday spirit with some old-fashioned Christmas fun at the Page-Walker Holiday Open House from 3-6 p.m. Then, stick around Town Hall campus for the annual Christmas tree lighting and variety show on the south lawn of Town Hall.

The Cary Players will present A 1940s Radio Christmas Carol at the Cary Arts Center beginning November 30, with two shows on Saturday, December 1. Tickets start at $18 and can be purchased online or at the box office.

Kids can also drop off their Letters to Santa at Santa’s Mailbox in Downtown Park anytime from now through December 9. Please include the child’s name and return address.
