Full Release

Cary, NC – Weather permitting, the Town of Cary will reduce Walnut Street between Kildaire Farm Road and South Walker Street to one lane beginning August 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday for approximately two weeks. Work will be conducted in the eastbound and center lanes of Walnut Street; drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to use alternate routes, including a signed detour along South Walker Street and Byrum Street. Previously only one lane was anticipated to be closed, but an additional lane closure is needed to ensure the safety of crews and drivers.

The intersection of Kildaire Farm Road and Walnut Street will become a three-way stop; flaggers will direct drivers turning right on Walnut Street from Kildaire Farm Road into the westbound lane of Walnut Street, alternating traffic flow with drivers heading west along Walnut Street. Drivers traveling on Dry Avenue will not be able to make a left turn onto Walnut Street but can proceed to the signed detour along Byrum Street. (Reminder: Please observe the 25 Miles per Hour speed limit on Byrum Street.)

Once completed, work will move to the westbound and center lanes of Walnut Street between Kildaire Farm Road and South Walker Street. Work will not be conducted on Saturday, August 25 for the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival and Monday, August 27 for the first day of Wake County Public School System’s traditional calendar.

The lane closures will allow for work associated with the construction of the new Cary Regional Library and parking deck at the corner of Kildaire Farm Road and Walnut Street.
