Cary, NC – A weekend of special events including a concert and film screening marks the 10th annual Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Festival, culminating with the traditional Poetry Festival on Sunday, April 8. These events bring together poets, scholars and poetry fans in the humanistic spirit of the internationally-renowned Turkish poet Nâzım Hikmet Ran.

On Friday, April 6 at 8 p.m. at the Cary Arts Center, lovers of music and literature alike will be treated to an evening of music featuring Turkoise, a DC-based pop group, performing a selection of Turkey’s best-known poems in song. The cost of the concert is $15 for students and $25 for adults at The Cary Theater box office or through eTix.

A free poetry writing workshop starts at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 6 at The Cary Theater, followed by a free screening at 2 p.m. of “Nâzım Hikmet: The Blue-Eyed Giant” a biopic depicting Hikmet Ran’s time as a political prisoner. Please register for the free workshop in advance by emailing

On Sunday, April 8 from 1-7 p.m. meet the Nâzım Hikmet Poetry Competition winners, listen to poetry readings and keynote speakers then enjoy a reception and hang out with poets from around the world at the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center.
