West of - N.C. 55
Also included - portions of Cary's planning jurisdiction north of Morrisville Parkway and west of N.C. 54/Chapel Hill Road
Background
Development pressure in the quickly changing northwestern part of Cary prompted the Town to move ahead in January 2002 with work on a master plan for the northwestern portion of its planning area.
Three planned unit developments had been approved in the area by the start of 2002. Proposals were pending for two additional communities and for a significant revision to the largest planned community in the area, Amberly. The N.C. Department of Transportation had accelerated planning for the Western Wake Expressway (I-540). The Town wished to plan for roads, greenways and bike paths in concert with freeway planning.
Four nationally respected consulting firms assisted with development of the plan.
