CARY TO HOLD WORK SESSION ON UTILITIES PLANNING & DEVELOPMENT

CARY -- The Town of Cary has scheduled a work session to discuss Cary’s utilities infrastructure as well as its role as a regional service provider. The session will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14th in Town Council Chambers.

"On major planning issues such as this, it’s not uncommon for Council to hold work sessions which allow them to focus solely on one important topic," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "These meetings give staff the opportunity to present a comprehensive overview of the issues and to seek direction from the elected officials," he added.

While workshops like this are typically open to the public, Town officials are hoping that citizens will make an extra effort to attend the Tuesday evening meeting. "This is a great opportunity for the public to learn about Cary’s infrastructure and to get the facts on the Town’s needs as well as its plans for the future," said Robert Tucker, Director of Cary’s Development Services Department.

During the meeting, Town staff will explain Cary’s actual utility service delivery area and how and why this area differs from the Town’s corporate limits. The group will also examine utilities planning in terms of the Town’s growth plan, area population projections, increased environmental regulations, and the economics of regional partnering.

Also presenting information at the session will be two consultants, PiedmontOlsenHensley and Camp Dresser & McKee, both groups hired by the Town to assist with the planning and development process of various water and wastewater projects. "These folks are some of the best in the field," said Kim Fisher, Cary’s Public Works & Utilities Director. "Because they do this every day for jurisdictions throughout the nation, their thoughts will be extremely helpful as Cary charts its future course."

The Town of Cary currently provides sanitary sewer services for its corporate limits as well as Morrisville, RDU Airport, and parts of Research Triangle Park. The jointly-owned Cary-Apex Water Plant provides varying types of water services to Cary and Apex as well as Morrisville, Holly Springs, RDU, RTP, and Chatham County.
