REWARD IN CARY SEWER VANDALISM

RAISED TO $5,000

CARY -- The Town of Cary has raised to $5,000 the possible reward in a case involving the vandalism of sewer facilities in Lochmere Highlands and Scottish Hills subdivisions. The Town, in cooperation with Cary Crimestoppers, will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification and apprehension of those individuals responsible for the vandalism.

"Destruction of public property affects all of us," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "We hope that we can re-focus people’s attention to this issue and bring the situation to a close," he added. On July 24, 1997, the two groups began offering a reward of up to $2,500 in the case but have had little response thus far.

Sometime on June 19th, vandals removed sewer drain covers at several locations and stopped up the drains with wood, rocks, and other debris causing sewer backup and overflows. One incident occurred near Loch Highlands Lake in the 100 block of Clubstone Lane in Lochmere Highlands; the other incident occurred on the greenway between Tarbert Drive and Gatehouse Drive in Scottish Hills at the 1200 Block of Gatehouse Drive.

Anyone with information may contact Crimestoppers at 460-INFO (460-4636) or Lt. Stephen Lee, Criminal Investigations, at 469-4017. All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
