NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR

CARY -- The Town of Cary Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources department is seeking nominations for outstanding volunteers. Six awards categories touch all aspects of PRCR, including athletics, cultural arts, the environment, youth, and seniors. There is also an overall award for outstanding volunteerism. The awards will be presented at the 2nd Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet to be held this year on February 10, 1998, at the Cary Community Center.

"Volunteers greatly enhance the programs that the Town offers," said Judy Willard, Recreation Projects Coordinator for Cary PRCR. "This event is a way to extend our thanks to these individuals for their dedication, support and hard work."

Cary’s PRCR Volunteer Awards include:

The Don Smith Award--recognizing volunteers in the Town’s athletics programs who demonstrate leadership as well as promote skill development, sportsmanship, participation, and fun;

The Cultural Arts Award--presented to an individual who lends leadership and support to all aspects of the Town’s arts programs, including literacy, performance, and visual arts;

Environmental & Trails Award--recognizes leadership and effectiveness in advocating environmental conservation as well as the improvement and development of the Town’s greenways, trails, and open spaces;

The Teen Award--given to a deserving member of Cary’s Teen Council who demonstrates leadership and a strong interest in community service;

Senior Award--presented to one with a strong interest and participation in senior activities;

Herb Young Award--given to a volunteer with overall outstanding support, leadership, and support for and of the staff and programs of Cary’s PRCR department.

Anyone interested in making nominations may telephone Cary PRCR at 469-4061. All nominations are due by 5:00 pm on Monday, December 1, 1997.
