TOWN WINS STATEWIDE AWARD FOR PARKS PROGRAM PUBLICATION

CARY -- The Town of Cary Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources department took top honors at this year’s North Carolina Recreation & Park Society Conference. Cary’s PRCR department’s 1997 Fall Program Brochure was named "Best Print Publication" in the Marketing & Communications Awards category. The award was presented on November 9, 1997, in Charlotte, NC.

"We are very proud to be selected for this honor," said PRCR director Mary Barry. "Our department is committed to quality service delivery, so it’s very important for us to find effective ways to communicate our program offerings."

This was the first year for the NCRPS’ Making Waves Awards Program which allowed participants to submit entries for "Marketing & Communications Award" as well as "Entrepreneurial Spirit Award". Cary competed against five other entries to win in the Marketing category.

"When Town government is recognized for good work, it reflects well on the Town itself," said Manager Bill Coleman. "Our staff strives for excellence each day, and we look for this type of opportunity to get feedback on our efforts."

With the exception of the actual printing, the Town’s 1997 Fall Program was produced entirely in-house. Ten thousand copies of the 64-page publication were produced at a cost of $0.50 each. The Program is distributed free to those interested in the Town’s recreational and enrichment activities.
