WACHOVIA BANK
ROBBED;
CARY POLICE NAB SUSPECTS DURING GETAWAY
CARY, NC Cary Police have apprehended two bank robbery suspects immediately following this mornings robbery of a local bank.
Just after 10:00 AM, a black male wearing a mask and hooded poncho entered the busy Wachovia Bank at 1701 North Harrison Avenue in Cary, demanding that the plastic grocery bag he was carrying be filled with money. The bank teller complied, and the suspect left the bank without incident. He then ran across the parking lot to a waiting getaway car with a driver, and the two suspects left the scene in a gray, four-door sedan. Hearing the call, police in the area saw a car matching the description traveling on Evans Road. Cary Police stopped the car, found the bag of money, and took the driver and passenger into custody--Lonnie Clements, 37, of Raleigh and Kelvin Lamont Freeman,19, of Raleigh.
The two suspects were taken to the Cary Police Department for questioning by police and officials with the FBI. Charges are pending the outcome of the complete investigation but may be filed later today.
