FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 29, 1999

MEETING DATE WITH JOB CORPS CHANGED, EXPANDED TO INCLUDE OTHER IMPORTANT DISCUSSION

PRINCEVILLE, NC – Tuesday’s meeting between Job Corps and Princeville residents and officials has been moved to Wednesday, December 8th. In addition to the Job Corps, Princeville officials will discuss the current state of and allocation plans for the Princeville Relief Fund as well as progress on the establishment of the Princeville Recovery Team. The new meeting time is 6:00 PM; location is temporary Town Hall in Tarboro, NC.

Some of the labor services that may be available from Job Corps volunteers include plumbing, electrical, brick laying, and carpentry. Job Corps, www.jobcorps.org, is the nation's largest and most comprehensive residential education and job training program for at-risk youth, ages 16 through 24.

As of November 22nd, the Princeville Relief Fund contained $206,681.99. The fund, which has received donations from throughout the nation, is set up with Centura Bank. A formal allocation plan may be approved by officials at the upcoming meeting.

With only 8 regular staff, the job of bringing Princeville back from Hurricane Floyd while conducting regular Town business is a tremendous challenge. In this regard, Princeville officials are looking to temporarily expand the Town government by hiring or contracting with individuals to handle specific recovery-related jobs and act as the Princeville Recovery Team (PRT). By establishing the PRT, officials hope to speed the recovery process.
