NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 7, 1999
TOWN TO FINISH
LEAF SWEEP BY DECEMBER 24;
SPECIAL COLLECTION TO BEGIN IN JANUARY
CARY, NC Under a modified leaf collection program, Carys Landscape Maintenance Division will complete the final town-wide sweep for loose leaves as scheduled, just before Christmas. But even though collections will have taken place throughout the entire town two times, some stubborn leaves may still be holding on into the new year. To get these Y2K leaves, Cary will supplement regular vacuum leaf service by beginning a new program to accept calls to collect leaves curbside on demand, starting on January 1, 2000. This collection will be made at no cost to the homeowner.
For collection on demand, citizens should make requests through April 2000 electronically by completing the Special Leaf Collection Form at www.townofcary.org/depts/pwdept/faq.htm#leaf. Leaf requests may also be made by calling 469-4090. After hours, leave a message including your name, address, subdivision and phone number. The Town is committed to completing leaf collection on demand within 3 business days of the request.
For anyone interested in alternative ways to dispose of leaves, the Town recommends:
* Composting leaves in natural area
* Properly bagging leaves for Monday yard waste collection
* Transporting leaves to the leaf disposal site on N. Dixon Avenue
Earlier this fall, Cary changed its leaf program to eliminate "callbacks" during the heavy leaf season so that crews could completely sweep all locations in town twice before Christmas. Anyone who missed collection or wanted an extra collection during the heavy time would have to call to request the special pickup and be charged $100.
Visit Carys website for information on the complete Leaf Collection Program, including the Town Section Map.
