FLOYD RELEASE 5

CARY SPARED FLOYD FURY

CARY, NC – Cary escaped the full fury of Hurricane Floyd with mostly minor damage. The Emergency Operations Center closed at 9:00 AM when it became apparent that regular operations would be adequate to meet the needs of the public.

Because of fallen trees, widespread power outages resulting in failed traffic signals, and debris in the roadways, Town of Cary officials are asking citizens to stay off the roads and allow utility and public works crews to restore power and ensure that roadways are safe and clear.

Town of Cary government offices will resume regular schedule on Friday. Thursday’s garbage and recycling will be collected on Friday, and Friday’s collection will occur on Saturday.

For NON-EMERGENCY questions or to report downed trees and blocked roads, citizens should continue to call the FLOYD HOTLINE at 469-4090. The FLOYD HOTLINE will be staffed until 7:00 PM today; after this time, questions will go to voicemail for response on Friday during regular business hours.

No further Floyd news releases are planned unless changing conditions warrant further action.
