DAVIS NAMED EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

CARY, NC – Cary Police Records Supervisor, Chris Davis has been selected to receive the Town of Cary’s 11th annual Employee of the Year award. By being selected as Cary’s Employee of the Year, Davis will receive a $1,000 savings bond and a plaque. In addition, images of and information about Davis will be featured on the Town’s website. The announcement came at Cary’s annual employee recognition luncheon held yesterday at the Cary Community Center.

"Winning this award is a tribute to the support and assistance I receive from my supervisors and fellow employees," said Davis. "I can definitely say I enjoy getting up everyday and coming to work. I love my job." Davis added that the best thing about his job is the people he comes in contact with, from coworkers to citizens.

Davis has worked with the Town of Cary for three and a half years. As records supervisor, Davis develops and maintains the Town of Cary’s automated police records management system. He also performs crime statistics analysis and victims' assistance work. He is one of the first faces people see when they arrive at the Cary Police Department, so he has a tremendous amount of contact with the public.

Davis was selected from a pool of five finalists, all of whom were honored at a reception earlier this week. The remaining four finalists— Dale North, Renee Wathen, Ted Zolkowski, and Bonnie Stone--will each receive a $200 savings bond as well as a certificate.

"We’re really proud of Chris receiving this award," said Cary Police Chief WJ "Windy" Hunter. "Chris is an outstanding employee and is definitely deserving of this honor." Last year’s Employee of the Year, Allan Murray, is also with the Cary PD.

Outside of work, Davis, 45, enjoys sports and reading. He was the Town’s 1999 Combined Giving Campaign co-chairman and the Special Olympics World Summer Games Security Manager for Prestonwood golf. Originally from Gastonia, NC, Davis lives in Garner with his wife Connie and their son, Jason.

To be eligible for the Employee of the Year honor, Town of Cary staff members had to be nominated by either a co-worker or a citizen. Each nominee was evaluated by a panel of Town employees who individually ranked the nominees based on their relative commitment to the job, interaction with their various publics, pursuit of professional development, and participation in their community. This year, there were 19 employees nominated for the honor, and three of the employee-judges were former Town employees of the year.

"Chris and the other finalists are great examples of the fine professionals we have with us at the Town of Cary," said Assistant Town Manager Ben Shivar. "I know the citizens of Cary join me in thanking all of our staff for the excellent service they provide each day."

Selecting the Employee of the Year comes at the end of the Town’s weeklong employee recognition activities coordinated by the Town’s Human Resources Department. Also honored at yesterday’s luncheon were those employees who had 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service as well as those employees who retired this year from Town service. In all, more than 62 individual employees were recognized for their contributions.
