AREA MOMS are going DANCING AND going WILD THIS MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND IN CARY

Annual Ball and Celebration of Nature offer enriching options for celebrating Mom

CARY, NC – Cary has what area families are looking for to shower Mom this Mother’s Day weekend at the Town’s 2nd Annual Mother’s Day Ball on Saturday, May 10 and the 10th Annual Celebration of Nature – “Go Wild” on Sunday, May 11.  Families from around the Triangle will be dancing the night away at the Mother’s Day Ball on Saturday from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. at the Cary Senior Center , 120 Maury O’Dell Place ; tickets are still available for $17 (residents) and $22 (non-residents).  Then on Sunday at 1 p.m. , the fun continues with a free celebration of Mother Nature at the Stevens Nature Center at Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve, 2616 Kildaire Farm Road .

Dancing moms and families will be entertained by the Cary School of Music Quartet and a local D.J. during the Mother’s Day Ball.  Also, participating families will receive a professional 5x7 family photograph with Mom; photography begins at 6 p.m. and dancing starts at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be provided.

On Sunday, Mother Nature will be the honored guest at the Celebration of Nature.  This year’s theme, “Go Wild!” focuses on the wild places found at Hemlock Bluffs and the wildlife that thrive within them, including stream habitats, the forest floor, the trees and seasonal woodland pools.  There will also be live entertainment, hands-on activities and ice cream for the entire family.

“Make this Mother’s Day an extraordinary one that Mom will always remember,” said Assistant Community Center Supervisor Danny Bass.  “We’re pleased to offer the Mother’s Day Ball and the Celebration of Nature as fun and enriching alternatives for expressing your love for mother, grandmother, aunt or any other mother-like figure.”

Celebration of Nature will be held rain or shine; to help make travel more convenient, the Town will be providing a free shuttle service that will run from Harold D. Ritter Park to Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve throughout the event.

Named for Colonel William Walton Stevens and his wife Emily Stevens for their generous contributions, the 3,700 square foot Stevens Nature Center provides information about the natural history of the area and the plants and animals that live in the Nature Preserve.  The Center also offers a variety of nature programs for participants of all ages on a year-round basis.
