LITTLE FEET TO PITTER PATTER OVER U.S. 1/64 IN CARY

DURING FAMILY FUN & FITNESS WALK

Walk to feature fun pit stops and prizes for outstanding pedestrians

CARY, NC – There’s no such thing as too young for hundreds of youngsters that will participate in a “grownup” fitness race during the Kids Together Family Fun & Fitness Walk on Saturday, May 3 from 8:30 until 11 a.m. at Cary’s Kids Together Park, 111 Thurston Drive.  Kids and their families will complete the 1.4-mile trek (round-trip) from Kids Together Park on the Hinshaw Greenway, cross the pedestrian bridge over U.S. 1/64 to go to MacDonald Woods Park and then return via the same route.  Interested participants may register on-site for $5 per person or $15 per family.

As part of the walk, participants will discover a number of useful stops along the way, including information on the area’s birds, the Town’s greenways, and the new public art project for the bridge.  Also, KATAL the Kids Together dragon mascot will greet visitors along their journey.  Little guests will also enjoy a rest stop to play with bubbles.

Prizes will also be awarded to winning participants for largest family, first to finish, last to finish, youngest participant, oldest participant, as well as others.

“We invite everyone regardless of age or athletic ability to come out for this entertaining family event,” said Marketing Specialist Leda Isenhour.  Isenhour added that the walk is also accessible for those needing strollers or wheelchairs.

This event is being presented by Kids Together with support from the Town of Cary , to promote Kids Together Park and MacDonald Woods Park , as well as the new pedestrian bridge and greenway trail that connect the two.  Proceeds from this fundraiser will support the activities of Kids Together and enhance and improve Kids Together Park .  Kids Together is the all-volunteer, non-profit organization that supports Kids Together Park .  Kids Together Park has been recognized with awards for its unique design and is gaining acclaim both nationally and internationally as a new model for accessible play.

The N.C. Department of Transportation collaborated with the Town of Cary to install the U.S. 1/64 pedestrian bridge and connecting trails from MacDonald Woods Park (north side of U.S. 1/64) to Kids Together Park (south side of U.S. 1/64); the project was completed in October 2007.

In the event of rain, the event will be postponed until the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until 4 p.m.
