POLICE
NAB SMASH AND GRAB SUSPECT
Arrest
may clear as many as 31 cases
CARY
,
NC
– On
June 27, 2008, the Town of
Cary
Police Department arrested
Cleveland
Fernando Birdsong
of
108 Lasky Court, Apartment A1
in
Cary
in connection with five burglaries,
one of which was the Hot Point Deli robbery on
June 21, 2008. Birdsong
was apprehended following four burglaries he committed on
June 26, 2008
, two of which occurred at
Sheer Elegance Hair Salon and Verizon at the Shoppes of Kildaire; the two other
burglary victims were Marble Slab Creamery and Great Clips Hair Salon located in
the
Centrum
Shopping Center.
Police caught Birdsong on
June 27, 2008
after a short pursuit during which the suspect attempted to
elude police on a scooter and on foot. Birdsong
is also a suspect in as many as 31 crimes dating back to November 2007.

gratifying when we are able to arrest those whose illegal actions adversely impact the safety and
security of our citizens,”
said Captain Mike Williams of the Cary Police Department.
The
crimes with which Birdsong has been charged and their maximum penalties are
five
counts of felony breaking and entering, 20 months; one count of felony larceny,
20 months; felony speeding to elude, 20 months; resisting, obstructing and
delaying a police officer, 60 days;
hit and run for a motor vehicle accident, 60 days; careless and reckless
driving, 60 days; and driving with a revoked license, 120 days.
Birdsong is being held in the
Wake
County
Public
Safety
Center
under a $101,000 bond.
