COMMENT SOLICITED ON DRAFT SOUTHEAST AREA PLAN

CARY, NC – Review and comment on the draft Southeast Area Plan on Tuesday, January 27, 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Student Center of Colonial Baptist Church located at 6051 Tryon Road at the intersection of Tryon and Walnut Street.  The plan covers an area of about 3.2 square miles in the southeast Cary planning jurisdiction.  The plan is centered around the Crossroads Plaza area, and includes the area south of US Hwy 1/64 and north and east of SE Cary Parkway , plus the Buck Jones Road corridor.  A map of the study area is available on the Town’s web site at www.townofcary.org.  (From the home page, click on “Site Index” then “Southeast Area Plan.”)

This open house is an opportunity for citizens to review, comment on, and suggest changes to the draft of a new comprehensive plan for southeast Cary .  The plan includes long-range recommendations for the desired type, pattern, and amount of future development, as well as for future roadway improvements, greenways, sidewalks, and public parks.  All interested citizens, business owners, and land owners in Cary and its planning jurisdiction are invited, as well as any interested parties from adjoining jurisdictions, such as Raleigh and Wake County .

Maps showing existing conditions and features within the study area, as well as maps showing the plan’s recommendations for future land uses, roadways, parks, and greenways will be on display.  Comment forms will be provided for citizens to write their opinions and suggestions.  Planning, Engineering, and Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources staff will be on hand to answer questions.

This open house is part of the Town’s effort to develop a revised comprehensive plan for southeast Cary .  The project began in the summer of 2002, and is expected to be complete by the summer of 2004.  Following the open house, Town staff will draw on citizen comments and suggestions to prepare a revised draft plan for public review at a second neighborhood meeting, planned for early March.  The final proposed plan will be heard by Town Council at an official public hearing, tentatively scheduled for April 2004.
