MLK, JR's DREAM CELEBRATED IN
CARY  

CARY, NC – Dreamfest 2004, the Town of Cary ’s annual celebration of the live and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will take place throughout the community January 16 - 18 and also on February 7.  Designed to encourage a greater sense of community through actualizing and celebrating the legacy, dreams, aspirations and spirit of Dr. King, Dreamfest 2004 includes the following special events:  

Dream of Inspiration Musical Celebration "ONE SONG”
Friday, January 16, 7 p.m.
Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, 110 SE Maynard Road, Cary
Enjoy local talent from the community and surrounding areas as they bring "One Song" to share. Featured performance by choral groups from the Sanderson High School Choral Department under the direction of Marshall Butler, Jr. (2002-2003 "Teacher of the Year").  

Dream of Expression Art Exhibition & Display
January 17 – Feb. 24

View inclusive and diverse works of artists celebrating Dr. King's Dream, Everybody's Dream and Their Reality.  Planned by: MLK, Jr. Task Force of Cary .
 

Dream of Community MLK, Jr. Community Expo 2004
Saturday, January 17, noon - 1:30 p.m.
Lunch:  $3
Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, 110 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary
Cooperative/Partnership links showcase and tell their story, local authors, national and international authors, vendors, fun activities for children and youth, visit by Clifford the Big Red Dog, Kid's Art for Peace Sake, Storytelling, Heritage Display, Live Performers, and more.  

Dream of Democracy Unity Rally
Saturday, January 17, 2 p.m.
Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, 110 SE Maynard Road, Cary
Special guest speaker Archbishop George A. Stallings, Jr., community leaders Julie Robison, Marla Dorrel, Howard Toomer, Father John A. Wall, Renie' Palmer and others reflect on Martin's "I Have A Dream" speech and make a comparison to where we, the world's peoples, are now from their perspective.  Also, Dream of Achievement Award recipients recognized.

Celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at a gala featuring art, music, gift shop and refreshments.  This semi-formal evening is a highlight in a series of MLK, Jr. Dreamfest 2004 events commemorating King's contribution to American life.  Special guest:  Archbishop George A. Stallings, Jr.  

Dream of Unity Ecumenical Observance
Sunday, January 18, 4 p.m.
Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 1050 NW Maynard Road, Cary
Non-denominational inspirational service remembering Martin Luther King, Jr. and reminding us that we are one.  Keynote speaker - Archbishop George A. Stallings, Jr.  

Dream of Justice Unity March
Monday, January 19, 10 a.m.
Gather at State Capitol (1 E. Edenton St.) to begin march to Memorial Auditorium.
The Cary community unites to march with the MLK, Jr. Commemorative March in downtown Raleigh . Special guest Archbishop George A. Stallings, Jr., Ambassador and Service for Peace representatives.

Dream of History Black History Presentation
Saturday, February 7, 2 p.m.
Barnes & Noble, 760 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary
Dr. Emmanuel Ngwainmbi and Sherrod Gresham present "African-American History Comes Alive" a Black History presentation sharing the African and African-American culture, its people and their significant contributions.  This event is sponsored by the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, the MLK, Jr. Task Force and the Parents Coalition for Excellence.  

Dreamfest 2004 special guests include Archbishop George Augustus Stallings, Jr., a native of New Bern , N.C. and founder of an autonomous, independent and African-centered Catholic Church, known as Imani Temple African-American Catholic Congregation, headquartered in Washington , DC .  Dr. Emmanuel Ngwainmbi and Sherrod Gresham present "African-American History Comes Alive" a Black History presentation sharing African & African-American culture, its people and their significant contributions.  Dr. Ngwainmbi is a professor, journalist and consultant on international-global communication management.  Gresham is the founder & CEO of S & O Educational Resources.
