Cary Celebrates the Season with the Annual Tree Lighting

CARY , NC Start your holiday season with the children of our community as they perform on Sunday, December 7, 2003 at 6 p.m. on the Town Hall Campus with the Town of Cary ’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting and open house at the Page Walker Arts & History Center .

With the beautiful 35-foot cedar tree as a backdrop, come enjoy the joyful sounds of area children’s choirs, including North Star from Northwoods Elementary, the Reedy Creek Elementary School Choir, and Cary Children’s Concert Choir. Then, enjoy a sing-a-long of your favorite holiday tunes led by CityFolk—Peter Smith and Jane Muldoon-Smith. This year’s special guest tree lighters are the winners of the Red Ribbon Poster Context-- Zoe Castellino from Kingwoods Elementary, Jasmin Huang from Penny Road Elementary, Gabriellia Lorenzo from Farmington Woods Elementary, and Abena Anima Nimako-Boateng from Green Hope Elementary.  Pulling the night together is Master of Ceremonies, Lynda Loveland of WRAL-TV news.

After the outside festivities, the celebration continues indoors at the historic Page-Walker Arts & History Center . For the kids, there will be cookie decorating and old-fashioned garland making to celebrate the holiday season. While inside the center, decorated for the holidays by the Friends of the Page-Walker, take a few moments to view the posters created by our Official Tree Lighters and Red Ribbon Poster Contest winners, visit the Cary Heritage Museum, view "then and now" photographs of Cary environs, enjoy jazz by Bobby Moody in the main gallery, magic by Michael Creech, and refreshments.  Town of Cary Water Conservation will be on hand with free water-saving gifts.

"Kids of all ages will enjoy this community celebration," says Lyman Collins, Cultural Arts supervisor. "Bring a blanket and thermos of cocoa along with your holiday spirit and be a part of this annual tradition in Cary .”

All events are free. In case of rain, the event will be held at Herb Young Community Center , also on the Town Hall Campus.  Parking for this event is available at the new parking deck adjacent to Herbert C.
