Livingston released his first album in 1970 and has continued to release to the present, with plans to release a new album in Spring 2004.  He has written and released a commemorative song celebrating the Wright Brothers 100th Anniversary of Flight, "December, 1903."  He has written two children's books, Pajamas and Can I Be Good?

Although he lives out of state, he is still considered a North Carolina son and has been recognized for his contribution to American culture at the Celebration of North Carolina Artists. He is an artist in residence at Harvard University and a Professor at the Berklee College of Music.  A winner of the Boston Music Award for the “best folk and acoustic artist.”
