RECEIVES NATIONAL INDUSTRY NOMINATION

Cary, NC – For those that have attended a concert or show in the magnificent outdoor setting at the Amphitheatre at Regency Park in Cary, it will come as no surprise that the venue has been nominated as one of the best small venues in the country by Pollstar magazine. Competing for the title in this category are Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta , GA ; Greek Theatre, Los Angeles , CA ; Santa Barbara Bowl, Santa Barbara , CA and Wolf Trap Filene Center , Vienna , VA.

“Just to be nominated among these other outstanding venues is an incredible honor”, says Becky Schmidt, SMG’s General Manager at the Amphitheatre at Regency Park . “It’s nice to know that all our hard work in bringing some of the country’s top touring acts to Cary as well as providing a serene summer home to the North Carolina Symphony have been recognized on a national level.”

Built in 2001 as a summer oasis to the North Carolina Symphony the Amphitheatre at Regency Park , an SMG-managed venue has added to its repertoire of offerings the last two years with the help of nationally recognized concert promoter, House of Blues as well as SMG’s Sports and Entertainment Division.  Last season the 7,000-seat facility spotlighted acts such as five-time Grammy award winner Norah Jones, Sheryl Crow, B.B. King, Ben Harper, John Prine with Nanci Griffith and more.

For Town of Cary officials, the nomination brings tremendous exposure to a venue that was built to be an industry leader.  “We’re thrilled to receive this kind of recognition in such a relatively short time,” said Cary Mayor Glen Lang.  “We wanted to build a facility that our residents could be proud of, and this nomination helps confirm that we met that goal.”

Since its construction, the Amphitheatre has received several other awards for outstanding architecture which include an Honor Award of Excellence in Architecture from the American Institute of Architects; 2001 Award for Design from The Boston Society of Architects; 2002 Honor Award from The USITT Architecture Awards and most recently a 2003 Merit Award from the American Institute of Architects.
