SOLID WASTE WORKER SELECTED AS CARY
 EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

CARY , NC Solid Waste Collector Forrest Mutts has been selected to receive the Town of Cary ’s 15th annual Employee of the Year award.  As Cary ’s Employee of the Year, Mutts will receive a $1,000 savings bond and a plaque.  The announcement came at Cary ’s annual employee recognition luncheon held yesterday at the Herbert C. Young Community Center .

“It is my pride and joy to stand here,” said Mutts regarding his selection.  “I thank the Town, my fellow employees and supervisors, and especially I thank the Lord for making this possible.”

Mutts, who has been with the Town since 1998, was nominated by Ted J. Zolkowski, Solid Waste Operations Coordinator, who said that Mutts motivated his coworkers through his strong work ethic and dedication to providing superior customer service on a daily basis.  “We received several phone calls from customers during the past year commending Forrest’s perseverance in picking up trash around cans prior to his crew collecting it.”

“We’re really proud of Forrest receiving this award,” said Public Works Director Mike Bajorek.  “Forrest is an outstanding employee and has a great attitude which spreads throughout the division.  Even on the rainiest days, Forrest has a smile on his face.  He is truly dedicated to his profession and to providing quality, customer-oriented service.”

Twelve employees were nominated for Employee of the Year.  Other finalists for the award were Pat Bazemore, Deputy Police Chief, Don Belk, Senior Planner, and Terry Scott, GIS Applications Supervisor, each of whom will receive a $200 savings bond.  At the recognition luncheon, 165 employees were recognized for years of service milestones of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years as well as 12 retirees.  The Town of Cary employee recognition program is designed to reward and celebrate employee contributions to the organization.

“Forrest and the other finalists are great examples of the dedicated employees we have with us at the Town of Cary ,” said Assistant Town Manager Ben Shivar.  “I know the citizens of Cary join me in thanking all of our staff for the excellent service they provide each day.”

Cary employs 1,015 employees, or 9.5 per 1,000 population, one of the lowest citizen/staff ratios in the Triangle area.
