CARY ’S BB GUN GANG STRIKE AGAIN

CARY , NC – The Town of Cary Police Department is asking for your help in apprehending those involved in increasing numbers of vandalism with BB guns and possibly sling shots.  Over the weekend, residents and business owners mainly in downtown Cary reported about 60 cars, doors, and buildings being hit by one or more pellets or rocks.  Fortunately, no injuries were reported.  Police are looking for three white males ages 16-19 in a dark blue Hyundai.  Police would also like to question four teenage occupants of a teal, four-door Honda Accord or Toyota .  Among these white males ages 16-19 was one in the backseat who shot out another vehicle's driver side mirror.  This weekend’s spree brings the total number of similar incidents to about 121 since November 1, 2003 .

In addition to downtown Cary , suspects have targeted properties throughout Cary since November 1st including Harrison Avenue , Kildaire Farm Road , Walnut Street and James Jackson Avenue as well as numerous side streets.

Parents are asked to talk with their teenagers to gather any information that might help police, and residents are encouraged not to park their vehicles on streets overnight, which is when these crimes tend to occur.

“While we believe there are just a handful of folks involved in this, they’re probably the kind of folks that will brag about what they’ve done,” said Sergeant Travis Baker.  “With the frequency of these crimes increasing, we are extremely concerned that what may be seen as a teenage prank may result in serious injury.”

Cary Crime Stoppers will pay up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification and apprehension of individuals responsible for these crimes.  Anyone with information may contact Crime Stoppers at 226-CRIM(E), pressing option 3 for Cary or contact Sergeant Travis Baker at (919) 462-3816 or Investigator Jim Grier at (919)462-4319.  All calls will be kept CONFIDENTIAL at caller's request.
