CARY
POLICE GET TOUGHER ON AGGRESSIVE DRIVING
CARY
,
NC
–
The Town of
Cary Police Department
has kicked off an effort to curb aggressive driving
such as weaving in and out of traffic, flashing headlights, following too
closely, and running stop signs and red lights.
Aggressive drivers in
Cary
can expect
more police stops, more unmarked vehicles, and more frequent ticketing. Motorists
being endangered by an aggressive driver should call 911 immediately.
Witnesses of aggressive driving in
Cary
are urged to
report violations to the Cary Police Department’s Traffic Hotline at (919)
319-4521.
“It’s not just rude, it’s dangerous—even deadly,” said Sergeant
Joe Clifton, supervisor of the police department’s traffic safety unit.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more
than 13,000 people have been injured or killed since 1990 in crashes caused by
aggressive driving.
“
North Carolina
is known for
being polite and hospitable, and we need that kind of behavior to make its way
back to our roads,” said
Clifton
.
