HOLIDAYS KICK OFF IN CARY THIS
WEEKEND
WITH HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING & PAGE-WALKER OPEN HOUSE
CARY, NC – Cary kicks off this special season as planned on Sunday December 8, 2002 at 6 p.m. on the Town Hall Campus with the Town of Cary’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting and open house at the Page Walker Arts & History Center.
With the beautiful 35-foot cedar tree as a backdrop, come enjoy the festive sounds of the Encore Singers, the saxophone quartet Saxaphrass, and holiday dance by Step Ahead Dance Studio. Then, enjoy a sing-a-long of your favorite holiday tunes led by the Cary High Concert Chorus. This year’s special guest tree lighters are from the Carolina Courage--Tiffany Roberts, Staci Burt, and Roary, and pulling the night together is Master of Ceremonies, Steve Daniels, a Cary resident and WTVD news anchor.
After the outside festivities, join your neighbors at the historic Page-Walker Arts & History Center, decorated for the holidays by the Friends of the Page-Walker Hotel. Visit the Cary Heritage Museum, view "then and now" photographs of Cary environs, enjoy jazz by A Moment’s Notice in the main gallery, performances by Sarah Benbow on the American Square piano, and refreshments.
For the kids, there will be cookie decorating, magic and old-fashioned garland making to celebrate the holiday season. The "Caryosity" documentary, produced by local middle school students, will be screened in the second floor classroom. Town of Cary Water Conservation will be on hand with free water-saving gifts.
"This community celebration of the season has become incredibly popular over the past years," says Lyman Collins, Cultural Arts supervisor. "It’s a wonderful time to bring your blanket and your loved-ones out to the Town Hall campus and welcome in the holiday season with your neighbors."
All events are free. In case of rain, the event will be held at Herb Young Community Center, also on the Town Hall Campus. Parking for this event is available at the Cary Chamber of Commerce, Train depot and the Page-Walker Arts & History Center. For more information, call (919) 469-4061 or visit www.townofcary.org.
