CARY POLICE APPREHEND SUSPECTS IN VANDALISM SPREE CARY, NC – Cary Police have identified and apprehended the persons believed responsible for the vandalism and shots fired into buildings and vehicles on November 20. The suspects are identified as Jess Smith, 19, and Brian Johnson, 17, both from Cary. In the late evening hours of November 20, 2002, the Cary Police Department received reports of shots being fired into numerous buildings and vehicles, including Embassy Suites, Cary High School, numerous churches, and vehicles. At approximately 11:50 p.m., officers responded to a call at the Waffle House in reference to a disturbance. At that time, responding officers made contact with the subjects involved in the disturbance. As a result of the investigation, officers located spent .22 caliber shell casings in the subjects’ vehicle. The weapon used in these incidents had been stolen from a storage shed at Morningstar Storage (920 W. Chatham Street) on November 18. Additional weapons were also stolen during that burglary. All but one of the weapons has been recovered. Smith and Johnson are charged with damage to property, shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony breaking and entering, larceny, going armed to the terror of the public, and possession of a firearm on school property and have been taken to Wake County Public Safety for processing. # # #
