WEATHER LEADS CARY OFFICIALS TO URGE CAUTION

CARY, NC – Don’t go out if you don’t have to. That’s the warning coming from officials in Cary, where today’s torrential rains are overpowering parts of Cary’s storm drain system, causing extensive flooding of roadways and property.

While no streets have been officially closed in Cary at this hour, significant flooding has occurred throughout the day on parts of Davis Drive, Chapel Hill Road, Cary Parkway, and the Maynard loop.

Motorists who encounter flooded streets are encouraged to turn around and take an alternate route.

"Do not attempt to cross a flooded roadway as the water may be much deeper than you think," said Lt. Tony Godwin of the Cary Police Department. "If you have to be on Triangle roads today, give yourself plenty of time and take it slowly."

With threats of severe weather likely continuing into the evening, Public Works & Utilities lines will remain open after hours to handle any reports of damages or requests for assistance. Please call (919) 469-4090.

As always, PLEASE DO NOT CALL 9-1-1 UNLESS YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY POSING AN IMMEDIATE THREAT TO LIFE, HEALTH, OR PROPERTY.
