Mild Winter Days are a Great Time to Enjoy Outdoor Activities at Bond Park

Orienteering
Never be lost again! Learn to find your way using a map and compass through participation in our monthly orienteering workshops. Different courses are prepared each month with the beginning to intermediate orienteer in mind. Each workshop starts with a 25 minute "how to" class for first timers and those needing a refresher. The $3.00 fee ($5 for non-Cary residents) includes an orienteering map, punch card and use of compass. Register and pay at the time of the workshop. Adult guidance is recommended for those under 12. The next classes begin at 10 a.m. on January 11, February 8, and March 8.

Nature Walks
Get to know the wildlife in your own backyard! Learn to identify the plant and animal life of Bond Park as it changes through the winter and spring months. Discover how to identify local and migrant birds by sight and sound, while exploring the park’s many trails and observe how the creatures of the park survive in their habitats. Bring binoculars if you have them! Pre-registration required.

See the Stars at Bond Park
Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered just where are those constellations they talk about in science books? How about what the rings of Saturn look like? Can we really see the Andromeda Galaxy with binoculars? Why does Venus have phases like the moon? These questions and many more will be explored on Astronomy Night at Bond Park. Bring your binoculars or telescope and learn how to use them to observe the night sky. Even if you don’t have observing equipment, some binoculars and telescopes will be available for use, so everyone will be able to explore the universe. Pre-registration required.
