DEADLINE FOR SECOND ANNUAL AMERICA RECYCLES DAY RECYCLE SCULPTURE CONTEST IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER

CARY, NC – Drive home the importance of recycling by helping a child create an entry for the Town of Cary’s second annual America Recycles Day Recycle Sculpture Contest. Sculptures must be made from items that can be recycled in the Cary curbside recycling program, can weigh no more than 10 pounds, and can be no taller nor wider than 24 inches. The activity is open to 2nd - 8th grade Cary students and others attending Cary schools. All entries are due by November 8th between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Page Walker Art and History Center on the Town Hall Campus.

"The project gives children a chance to exercise their creativity in developing an educational sculpture that reinforces the value of recyclable materials," said Town of Cary Recycling Specialist Karen Hales.

Eligible sculpture components include:

  • #1, 2, 5, and 7 plastic bottles
  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Aluminum foil and pie plates
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Milk and juice cartons
  • Newspaper, including inserts
  • Glass bottles and jars
  • 6-pack rings
  • Computers

The public is invited to see the sculptures on display at Page Walker Art and History Center on November 9th between 10 a.m. and noon. An awards reception will take place that day at 11:30 a.m. Prizes for the winning sculptures are being donated by Bullwinkles, Carolina Recycling Assoc., Cary Towne Center, Chocolate Smiles, Crossroads 20, JellyBeans, The Loop, and REI.

Founded in 1997, America Recycles Day is a nationwide campaign to help spread the word about recycling and buying items made from recycled materials.
