CARY WALNUT STREET WIDENING GROUNDBREAKING


WHAT:
A groundbreaking ceremony for widening of the remainder of Walnut Street—from Tryon Road to the Centrum shopping center in Cary

WHEN: 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 11th

WHERE: 2617 Walnut Street (approximately 0.1 mile on the right) just south of the Centrum

WHO: Town of Cary

BACKGROUND:

Approved by Cary voters in the 1999 Cary Community Bonds Referendum, this $5.3 million project begins about 1500 feet east of Dillard Drive and continues to Holly Springs Road. This project is a six lane median-divided roadway and includes realigning the Walnut Street /Tryon Road intersection. Walnut Street is a major east/west thoroughfare that runs from the east/southeast edge of town to downtown, with traffic counts of 20,000-30,000 vehicles per day.
