A HOLIDAY CELEBRATION IN THE HEART OF CARY

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary’s celebration of the holiday season will begin on Sunday evening, December 2nd, with the holiday tree lighting, variety show and open house. Cary Police Officer George Almond, who this past year was injured in the line of duty, will have the honor of lighting the Town’s Holiday Tree at the annual ceremony and variety show. The annual outdoor Tree Lighting Ceremony has traditionally been a community event where families gather to usher in the holiday season. This year’s show begins at 6 p.m. Sunday, December 2nd at the Town Hall campus. Steve Daniels, news anchor for WTVD Eyewitness News and Cary resident, will host this year’s ceremony.

Festivities begin with an hour-long, seasonal variety show including: dance selections from the Nutcracker Ballet by the Cary Ballet Conservatory; folk duo CityFolk; the Encore Singers; West Cary Middle School Choir; and the Cary Town Band. Following the lighting of the tree by Officer Almond, the audience is invited to visit the Page Walker Arts and History Center for holiday refreshments along with jazz performed by Moment’s Notice, and magic for kids of all ages by Michael Creech.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved into the Herbert C. Young Community Center, located adjacent to the ceremony site. Call (919) 469-4061 for more information.
