CARY TO BREAK GROUND ON SKATE PARK

CARY, NC – The construction wheels will begin rolling on Cary’s first skate park at a groundbreaking ceremony this Saturday, September 8, 10:30 AM, at Robert V. Godbold Park, 2050 NW Maynard Road, across from West Cary Middle School. The ceremony will feature remarks from officials from the Town of Cary, Sk8-Cary, Wake County Parks and Recreation, and ETD Architects.

When completed in about four months, Cary’s skate park will accommodate skateboarders and inline skaters as well as BMX bikers. The project includes a 12,000 square foot skate park along with parking, concessions, and a staff office.

Funding for the $491,303 project has been provided by Sk8-Cary, a Wake County grant, Cary Family YMCA, Hot Hoops 3 on 3 Tournament, and the Town of Cary. An additional $100,000-$125,000 will be required to build the ramps.

Using a process that involved numerous Cary kids and other potential users, the park was designed by Elam, Todd, d’Ambrosi architects, McClure/Hopkins architects, John Woodstock Design, Hugh J. Gilleece, and Bass, Nixon & Kennedy, Inc. R. P. Construction will build the facility.

In case of light rain, the event will go on; if the weather is stormy, the event will be rescheduled.
