CARY ANNOUNCES RECYCLE SCULPTURE CONTEST
Cary–Cary’s First Annual America Recycles Day Recycle Sculpture Contest is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students living in Cary. All sculpture entries must be made from items that can be recycled in the Cary Curbside Recycling Program, must not be taller nor wider than 24 inches, and can be no heavier than 10 pounds. All entries must be received by November 9th at 5:00 PM at the Town of Cary Operations Center, 400 James Jackson Ave. Winners will be announced on November 15th, America Recycles Day, and all winning entries will be displayed at the Cary Police Annex located in the Cary Towne Center from November 16 through December 2. Donated prizes include a $50 gift certificate to Cary Towne Center, a large pizza from Brothers Pizza, skating passes to Jelly Beans, and a bag of goodies made from recycled content from Wake County Environmental Services and Carolina Recycling Association.
"This will give area students an opportunity to use their creativity and develop a sculpture that not only educates those who see it about the value of recyclable materials, but also allows them to receive a prize for their creativeness," said Cary Recycling/Solid Waste Specialist Karen Hales.
The Town is committed to preserving and protecting finite natural resources to maintain the high quality of life in Cary, and sponsoring this contest is a means of encouraging recycling and the buying of items made from recycled materials to help in that effort. The Recycle Sculpture Contest is part of America Recycles Day, a nationwide campaign to help spread the word about recycling and buying items made from recycled materials.
