CARY OPEN SPACE PLAN

The one million dollars of annual funding for the Town of Cary’s proposed Open Space and Historic Resources Plan is coming from a 3 percent increase in the Town’s utility rates.

With the adoption of this fiscal year’s budget which went into effect on July 1st, utility rates generally rose about 11 percent: 3 percent for open space and 8 percent for necessary utility services upgrades.

The Town of Cary’s unprecedented Open Space plan is designed to protect environmentally sensitive areas and create an interconnected system of preserved open spaces. Open space positively affects air and water quality as well as increases the quality of life for citizens now and in the future. The Plan is slated for vote at tonight’s regular Town Council meeting which begins at 6:30 PM at Cary Town Hall, 316 North Academy Street. More information on Cary’s comprehensive open space efforts, as well as the Town’s utility rates, is available at www.townofcary.org.
