CARY TO HOLD 25th ANNUAL
LAZY DAZE ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL

CARY, NC--The 25th annual Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival will be held in downtown Cary on Saturday, August 25, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Over the past 25 years, the Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival has become one of the South's premier festivals. Every year, on the last Saturday in August, an estimated 50,000 people travel to downtown Cary to enjoy the handiwork of the very best artists and craftsmen in the country. Along with the usual mix of great food and artisans, this year will feature special displays and entertainment to mark this special birthday. Proceeds from Lazy Daze are contributed to local non-profit organizations that work to make Cary a better place to live.

"Over the past 25 years, Lazy Daze has grown along with the Town of Cary," said Mary Barry, director of Cary’s Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department. "From the beginning, Lazy Daze has featured great artisans, wonderful food and terrific entertainment. This years continues that tradition of excellence."

Two stages of live entertainment add lots of excitement and fun to the festival with a variety of performances to suit any taste. The Fidelity Stage, located at Fidelity Bank Plaza (corner of Chatham and Academy) features performances by the Fabulous Hot Dog Daddy-Os and Sammy O'Bannion & Mardi Gras. The Cary Elementary Stage located directly in front of the school at Academy Street features performances by Sweet Potato Pie, Legacy & Mickey Bills Steel Band, and Kate Campbell. "Kid's World", on the corner of Park Street and Academy, is a fun and interactive area providing a place for parents and their children to hang out and have a fun time--whatever the age!

For the first time, festival artisans will demonstrate craft techniques. Featuring five different art forms and artisans from three states, these demonstrations will offer festival goers the chance to see how the artwork goes from start to finished product. Demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day and will be held in the demonstration area that is located beside the Academy Street Post Office (in the Sculpture Garden area).

In addition to the numerous artisans, Lazy Daze hosts over 50 non-profit groups from Cary and Wake County. Half of these groups will set up concession booths providing festival-goers with a variety of foods. Other groups will distribute educational information about their group or offer opportunities to exchange donations for raffle tickets for fund-raising items.

Visitors to the festival are recommended to take the FREE shuttle busses that leave from Cary Towne Center. Shuttles leave every 15 minutes. Two areas of the mall have been designated for parking for the festival -- at Dillard’s and in the lower lot of Sears. The first shuttle departs at 8:30 AM; the last shuttle leaves Cary Elementary at 5:30 PM. Directions to Cary Towne Center are located on the Town's website.

In the event of rain, the festival will be held on Sunday, August 26th from noon to 7:00 PM. This weather decision and subsequent announcement will be made before 8:00 AM on Saturday if the event is delayed.
