HELP SOUGHT IN SOLVING, PREVENTING IDENTITY FRAUD CASES

CARY, NC – The Town of Cary’s Police Department is asking for your help in apprehending two suspects involved in a recent identity fraud committed in Cary. On September 20th, a man and woman came to the aisle where a customer was shopping at Target in Cary’s Crossroads Center. As the two approached, the male subject offered to help the female subject who was purporting to use a price-scanning device. As the two subjects executed this ruse, the female subject kept bumping into the customer from behind. The subjects left, and when the victim got to the checkout area, she noticed her wallet was gone from her purse. Immediately after this incident, large purchases were made at the Cary Circuit City and Service Merchandise stores using the victim’s credit cards.

One subject is described as a right-handed black female, about 5’8" tall, 140-150 lbs., 25-30 years of age, black sculpted hair, medium brown complexion, wearing a red shirt, black pants, and black shoes. The other subject is described as a black male, 5’8"-5’9" tall, 160-170 lbs., slim build, also 25-30 years old, also with black sculpted hair, wearing a gray shirt and black pants.

Investigators believe that this incident may be tied to other identity theft crimes, including burglary of autos where purses and wallets in plain view are taken and soon after used to make large purchases. In this regard, citizens are cautioned to exercise prudent measures with identifying materials. Do not leave wallets or purses in plain view or within easy access of would be thieves. If your ID is missing, report the situation immediately to police and financial institutions.
