EXPERIENCE INDIAN CULTURE IN CARY

CARY, NC. - Experience Indian culture through music, dance and food in a Bazaar-style atmosphere. The Cary Diwali Celebration will take place on Saturday, October 20, 2001 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Herbert C. Young Community Center, 404 N. Academy Street in downtown Cary. The first Cary Diwali Celebration is a showcase of Indian Cultural Arts and experiences. The celebration includes fun for the whole family with an ethnic food and vendor market, craft activities for children, and traditional dance and instrumentation performed by local community members. This event provides all area residents with the opportunity to experience the regional cultures of India. Admission is free.

Diwali is the most widely celebrated Indian festival, which marks the victory of good over evil. Diwali means a "row of lights." In India, Diwali is synonymous with several nights of fireworks and beautiful decoration of houses with clay lamps, which are a feast for the eyes. Diwali is indeed a much anticipated festival in India for the sheer joy and happiness of exchanging gifts, decorating houses and the fun and excitement of setting-off fire crackers by young and old alike.
