CARY CHRISTENS FIRST TANK
WHAT: Complete with a tethered, crashing bottle at the close of the ceremony, the Town of Cary will officially mark the start of service of its first ground storage water tank. In addition to an up close view of the massive new structure, media can tour the pumping and backup power facilities that keep millions of gallons of water flowing to parts of Cary each day.
WHEN: 2 p.m. Friday, November 30
WHERE: 1431 Old Apex Road, just west of downtown Cary
BACKGROUND:
Until now, the Town of Cary had four water storage tanks in service, all above ground. The Old Apex tank is Cary’s first ground storage tank and is part of the Town’s expansion of its water supply infrastructure launched in 1999 with voter approval of the $139 million Cary Community Bonds initiative. Of that, $66.5 million was to be directed to Cary’s water system, with about $10 million of that going towards bringing online four additional water storage tanks. Old Apex is the first of those four new water storage tanks to be put into service. Water storage tanks increase the water system’s storage capacity for fire protection needs and help cushion peak water demand.
